When Santa Lands in Town – Christmas

Jingle all the way this time of the year for it is the time for celebration. Yes, who does not want to hang the red sock by the side of the bed and wait for the next morning to find the surprise gift all wrapped with love and affection?
Come December and people get into the mood for Christmas, the one festival which surely is the most universally popular festival and the most loved. This annual holiday is celebrated by billions of people across the world and the Christian feast is perhaps the most awaited occasion of many families waiting for that one special yearly get together.
Christmas festival is celebrated in memory of the birth of Lord Jesus Christ. It signifies the closing of the Advent season and the commencing of the Chrimastide which is for around 12 days. Christmas Day is a civil holiday in most parts of the world and there are many non Christians who today are celebrating the festival with equal gusto.
The actual day of the birth of Christ is somewhere between 7 BC and 2 BC. The Christian Church in the west adopted the date of December 25 as the day of Christmas, and later on the East also integrated the same date. The earlier date of January 6 is still celebrated as Christmas in Armenia. It is a public holiday on January 6 in Armenia in celebration of the birth of Christ.
Christmas festival is celebrated in different countries in different ways. There are special themes and some secular background origins for the celebrations across the world. There are modern customs of giving gifts, Christmas cards and celebrations in the church. There is a special meal and then a varied display of decorations. There are Christmas trees decorated with small dolls, fritters and danglers. There are mistletoes which are placed everywhere and usually are placed on top of a doorway. Nativity scenes are depicted and there is holly everywhere. Love is in the air and friendship is the order of the day during Christmas. Children love to see their favourite Santa Claus clad in a red suit and looking podgy and loving with his twinkling eyes coming towards them and giving them gifts. Even adults really do not mind enjoying the warmth and affection of Santa during Christmas!
Other figures like Father Christmas and Saint Nicholas are also famous during Christmas. With all this in tow, the celebrations continue. Catholic countries have people having processions of religious kind, before Christmas. There are parades which feature Santa Claus and there are carol singing sessions which see people singing carols door to door and spreading the air of love on the streets.
Institutions and schools make Christmas more fun by organizing horse cart rides with the Santa to make children aware about the need to spread the message of love during the Christmas festival. Gifts are exchanged and the families once more get a chance to reunite. All the Christians go to the Christmas Mass and pray for a better morrow and a secure world.
Christmas festival is also the time when the prejudices are eased out, and grudges are buried. This is the time to understand that unity is strength and love reigns over all problems. The Christmas pudding and the red wine signifying Jesus’ blood instills in all the Christians the belief that love is God.
